Weiwuying Digital Aesthetic Education Project Applications Open to Middle and Elementary Schools from April 20th
National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts’ (Weiwuying) Aesthetic Education Project continues amid the Pandemic. With the ongoing cultivation of intellectual and aesthetic development of school-age pupils as its objective, Weiwuying is launching the “Weiwuying Digital Aesthetic Education Project,” inviting Counterpoint Ensemble, TLBE Brass, and organist Liu Hsin-Hung for the recording of the digital curriculum, creating a reassuring experience for students in different educational stages, including elementary schools, senior high schools, vocational high schools, and junior colleges, to learn about theater and experience the beauty of art. From April 20th to May 8th, teachers can apply for digital curriculums on the official website of Weiwuying. Each school can apply for up to five sets of curriculums, and priority will be given to teachers from rural schools.
The Weiwuying digital curriculum is constructed for elementary and middle school students. The material is designed into two versions, hoping to create a learning environment that has the presentness of a physical classroom, assisting students in learning and experiencing aesthetics. To make it convenient for teachers to implement the materials into their teaching, this project is structured according to the arts section of the “12-Year Compulsory Education Curriculum.” Videos are produced according to the content and guidelines, while complementary lesson plans and worksheets are designed to assist with the planning of front-end teaching and inaugurate teaching goals.
The digital curriculum for elementary schools is presented by TLBE Brass, demonstrating theater etiquette, introducing venues, and presenting the tone and expressive characteristic of brass instruments through the form of a mini comedy music show. The elementary digital curriculum guides students to enter venues to enjoy and learn about performances with a mindset that is at ease and fun without making etiquette mistakes.
The digital curriculum for middle schools is a collaboration with Counterpoint Ensemble. Combining entrancing storytelling with theater, music, and a simple storyline, the curriculum introduces music etiquette and guides students to learn about different composers, musical styles, and the various musical schools in music history in a short time frame.
Furthermore, organist Liu Hsin-Hung and Action Corporation artistic director Chang Han-Hsuan unite to make a video for all school-age pupils, introducing the architectural characteristics of Weiwuying, the unique vineyard-style concert hall design, and the largest pipe organ in Taiwan, presenting the attributes of Weiwuying, a world-class venue, and the beauty of pipe organ music, enabling students to gain deeper understanding towards theater and aesthetics.
Successful applicants will receive a flash drive with the video of either the elementary or middle school video. In addition, the introductory video of Weiwuying’s pipe organ and digital lesson plans and worksheets will also be included for teachers to print and use in their teaching.
All art venues of Weiwuying are disinfected hourly, forehead temperatures of venue staff are taken before going on duty, and staff members are required to wear face masks throughout the entire working period, preventing the spread of the pandemic and ensuring a comfortable and safe space for visitors. Weiwuying will continue to update preventive measures according to competent authorities. We advise visitors to wash hands frequently and seek medical attention as soon as symptoms such as high temperatures or acute respiratory infections occur.
