Based on The Legend of the White Snake, “Boundary +” explores the travels of the protagonists across the barrier/border as they struggle free from the rigidity of traditions to find love.
\n\n“Boundar y” are borders of clear ly defined linesfor things or entities. It can be specific, such asgeographic borders of political entities; it can alsobe conceptual, such as Form Realm (Rūpadhātu) inBuddhism that divides light and darkness. “Boundary”can be a double-bladed sword that inspires a sense ofidentity; it can also trigger disputes, conflicts and wars.The c onflicts o ver n ational b orders, l and o wnerships,moral barriers, legal jurisdictions, or love and lust canbe as clear as day and night, or vague as the murkycosmos.“Boundar y 2.0” is based on “The Legend of theWhite Snake,” one of the four great love stories inChinese folklore. The piece explores the travels ofthe protagonists across the barrier/border as theystruggle free from the rigidity of traditions to find love,despite the tragic yet beautiful end they knew thatwas inevitable. In 2016, TCO and Ju Percussion Groupventured a cross-arts collaboration, and were blownaway by sparks and enthused fan reception beyondtheir wildest imagination. In 2020, the two groupswill revisit their success and find ways to upend youraudiovisual experience.
