【Weiwuying 5th Anniversary】Christian SCHMITT Organ Recital
For Weiwuying's Anniversary series, we are once again offering free tickets to a solo concert by German organist Christian SCHMITT. He will perform German Romantic composer MENDELSSOHN's Organ Sonata No. 4 in B-flat Major, Op. 65, French Romantic composer FRANCK's Chorale No. 3 in a Minor, M. 40, and contemporary German organist and composer Maximilian SCHNAUS' Signals (from Remote Territories)- Concert Etude for Pedal Solo. MENDELSSOHN, the most significant German organ composer following BACH, completed six sonatas for the organ in 1844, the fourth containing four movements: Allegro con brio, Andante religioso, Allegretto, and Allegro maestoso e vivace. FRANCK, a pioneer in French organ symphony, wrote a series of three long chorales in 1890 (the year of his death), which are quite different from the melodies of Gregorian chants and BACH's chorales; they are instead full of fantasy and a sense of freedom that present well both the composer's exquisite skill and the rich timbre and expressiveness of the organ. SCHNAUS' Signals (from Remote Territories) is a challenge to the organist's feet as they are required to dance just as spiritedly as the fingers!
Program
F. MENDELSSOHN: Organ Sonata No. 4 in B-flat Major, Op. 65
Maximilian SCHNAUS: Signals (from Remote Territories)- Concert Etude for Pedal Solo (Taiwan Premiere)
C. FRANCK: Chorale No. 3 in a minor, M. 40
